01 Why patients come from Finland
A metal-free practice worth the short flight
A growing number of Finnish patients look beyond their own city for dentistry that takes the whole body seriously - care built around biocompatible, metal-free materials, genuine experience with ceramic implants, and a holistic understanding of how oral health connects to general wellbeing. Our practice in Bad Schwartau, immediately next to Lübeck in northern Germany, offers exactly that, and a direct flight from Helsinki to Hamburg makes it surprisingly easy to reach.
For many people the appeal is simple. They want a single practice that works exclusively without metal, that has placed ceramic (zirconia) implants many times, and that explains every step clearly in English. You do not need a word of German to understand your diagnosis, weigh up your options, or follow your aftercare. We build the treatment plan around your travel from Finland rather than expecting you to fit your life around the treatment.

04 English-speaking, metal-free care
Treated in English, from first call to aftercare
Coming this far for treatment only pays off when nothing is left vague. Everything happens in English - your diagnosis, the options in front of you, the materials and the thinking behind them, and precisely what recovery involves. Ask anything you want to; nothing important gets lost in translation.
Our practice is metal-free by principle. That means biocompatible materials chosen with sensitive patients in mind, ceramic restorations and implants where they are suitable, and careful, protocol-led removal of older metal work. If you have reacted poorly to dental materials before, or simply prefer to avoid metal in your body, this is the foundation everything here is built on.
- Consultations and aftercare in clear English
- Biocompatible materials for sensitive patients
- Safe, protocol-led removal of older metal restorations
- Detailed written documentation you can take home

06 Costs and written quotes
An itemised quote before anything is booked
Treatment is billed under the official German fee schedule for dentists, the GOZ. Your quote is broken down position by position - diagnostics, materials and each treatment step - so you always see what a plan actually consists of.
Because Finland is a flight away, we start the paperwork early. Send us your records and any existing X-rays, and in many cases we can provide a preliminary written assessment in English before you plan the journey. The binding, itemised quote follows the examination here at the practice, and you receive it before anything is booked.
The same itemised document serves as your evidence if you check reimbursement with the relevant Finnish authority or your insurer - the framework for that is described in the next section.
07 Cross-border care in the EU
Planning treatment abroad as an EU patient
As both Finland and Germany are part of the EU, planned care abroad can sit within a clear legal framework - not a leap of faith.
EU Directive 2011/24/EU · Patients' rights in cross-border healthcareFinland and Germany are both part of the EU, and under EU Directive 2011/24/EU on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare, patients from EU/EEA countries may be eligible to seek planned treatment in another EU/EEA country and apply for reimbursement from their national system - typically up to the amount the same treatment would have cost at home. Prior authorisation can apply in some cases, for example where treatment involves an overnight hospital stay.
Whether any of this applies to your situation depends entirely on Finnish rules and your individual circumstances, so we cannot guarantee reimbursement or quote you a figure. What we can do is give you clear, itemised written documentation of your diagnosis and treatment, which you can submit to the relevant Finnish authority or your insurer to check what may apply in your case. Please confirm the details with your own health authority before you travel.
