01  Why patients come from Sweden

A consistently metal-free practice

Sweden has a strong tradition of caution around metal in dentistry - the country was an early mover in limiting the use of dental mercury, and many Swedish patients are well informed about biocompatibility long before they look abroad. What they often want next is a practice that works exclusively without metal, has genuine experience with ceramic (zirconia) implants, and treats oral health as part of overall health. That is exactly the principle our practice in Bad Schwartau, immediately next to Lübeck in northern Germany, is built on.

We sit on the Baltic corridor between Hamburg and Denmark, the natural land-and-air route down from Scandinavia, which makes a treatment trip from Sweden easier to plan than many expect. Just as importantly, everything is explained in clear English - from your first enquiry to your aftercare - so nothing about your diagnosis or your options is lost in translation.

02  The approach

Dentistry that respects the body it lives in.

Biological dentistry asks not only "does this fix the tooth?" but "is this kind to the whole person?" - choosing materials, techniques and timing with your long-term health in mind.

04  English-speaking, metal-free care

Treated in English, from first call to aftercare

Travelling for treatment only works when you fully understand what is happening. We consult in English throughout - explaining your diagnosis, the options open to you, the materials we use and why, and exactly what your recovery looks like. Questions are welcome at every stage, so nothing is lost in translation and you can make decisions with confidence.

Our practice is metal-free by principle. That means biocompatible materials chosen with sensitive patients in mind, ceramic restorations and implants where suitable, and careful protocols for removing older metal work safely. If you have reacted poorly to dental materials before, or simply prefer to avoid metal, this is the foundation everything here is built on.

  • Consultations and aftercare in clear English
  • Biocompatible materials for sensitive patients
  • Safe, protocol-led removal of older metal restorations
  • Detailed written documentation you can take home

06  Cross-border care in the EU

Planning treatment abroad as an EU patient

Sweden and Germany are both part of the EU, and under EU Directive 2011/24/EU on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare, patients from EU/EEA countries may be eligible to seek planned treatment in another EU/EEA country and apply for reimbursement from their national system - typically up to the amount it would have cost at home. Prior authorisation can apply in some cases (for example, treatment involving an overnight hospital stay).

Whether any of this applies to your situation depends entirely on Swedish rules and your individual circumstances, so we cannot guarantee reimbursement or quote you a figure. What we can do is give you clear, itemised written documentation of your diagnosis and treatment, which you can submit to the relevant Swedish body - such as Försäkringskassan - or your insurer to check what may apply in your case. Please confirm the details with your own health authority before you travel.
