03 Getting here from Denmark
Closer than you might expect
The practice is in Bad Schwartau, immediately adjacent to Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein. Whether you drive down through Denmark or fly into Hamburg, the last stretch is short. Your total travel time depends on your Danish departure point.
Drive & cross the Fehmarnbelt
Drive down through Denmark to Rødby, take the Scandlines ferry to Puttgarden (about 45 minutes, with frequent departures), then roughly one hour onward to Lübeck/Bad Schwartau. From Copenhagen, the Rødby ferry terminal is around 1.5 hours by car.
Fly Copenhagen → Hamburg
Direct flights from Copenhagen to Hamburg Airport (HAM) take about 55 minutes. From Hamburg it is roughly a 45-55 minute drive, or about a 1h10-1h25 train journey, to Lübeck/Bad Schwartau.
By road through Denmark
From Odense, Lübeck is roughly a 3-hour drive south through Funen and Schleswig-Holstein. From Aarhus it is roughly 3 to 3.5 hours by car. Hamburg Airport is the nearest major airport for any air connections.
The Fehmarnbelt link
A fixed road-and-rail tunnel between Puttgarden and Rødby is under construction, with the first elements placed in 2025. Until it opens, the Scandlines ferry remains the direct crossing - simple, frequent and quick.

Planning treatment abroad as an EU patient
Denmark and Germany are both part of the EU, and under EU Directive 2011/24/EU on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare, patients from EU/EEA countries may be eligible to seek planned treatment in another EU/EEA country and apply for reimbursement from their national system - typically up to the amount it would have cost at home. Prior authorisation can apply in some cases (for example, treatment involving an overnight hospital stay).
