02Background & training

From the dental laboratory to the dental chair.

Before studying dentistry, Dmitri Klass completed training as a dental technician. That hands-on foundation still shapes his work today: he understands materials, fit and restorations not only from the dentist's side but also from the laboratory's - an advantage that matters most with ceramic restorations and individually made dental prosthetics.

After dental school he focused consistently on biological dentistry. He combines the precision of modern dentistry with a whole-body view: every treatment starts with a detailed medical history, a respectful explanation and the question of how a measure affects the body as a whole.

In his work he follows the recommendations of international professional organisations such as the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) and exchanges views regularly with colleagues who share this understanding of treatment.

Qualifications

  • Dentist (Zahnarzt)Licensed to practise dentistry in Germany (Approbation); member of the Zahnärztekammer Schleswig-Holstein.
  • Dental technicianCompleted training as a dental technician before dental school.
  • MicronutrientsContinuing education in micronutrients at the FOM - part of how he advises on oral health and healing.
  • DiagnosticsStructured further training in functional diagnostics and CBCT (3D imaging).

Continuing education as an ongoing task

Biological dentistry develops quickly - new materials, more precise imaging, a growing understanding of the oral microbiome. Dmitri Klass therefore takes part in continuing education every year, beyond the points required by professional regulations. Focus areas of recent years:

  • Digital implant planning with CBCT
  • FDOK / NICO diagnostics
  • Functional analysis for jaw-joint complaints (TMD / CMD)
  • Aligner-assisted bite rehabilitation
  • PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) to support wound healing

In his own words

“Healthy teeth do not develop in a vacuum. Nutrition, sleep, stress, breathing, posture - all of it plays a part in the mouth. My job as a dentist is to listen, to diagnose carefully and to offer solutions that people tolerate well in the long term. That is why I deliberately take time.”

03How I work

Time, metal-free materials and honest explanations.

Consistently metal-free. Instead of conventional titanium implants I use zirconia; instead of amalgam and base-metal alloys, full-ceramic restorations. Materials are chosen individually for each patient.

Four-handed treatment. In the treatment room we work in four-handed technique: dentist and dental assistant at the chair together.

Time for the first consultation. We deliberately plan more than 60 minutes for every first consultation - to listen, examine and explain the options without time pressure.

Evidence-oriented. For me, biological dentistry is not a marketing label but a systematic, evidence-oriented approach. Where the evidence is solid, I say so; where it is limited, I say that too.

How I work with international patients

Patients also write to us from outside Germany, including from Scandinavia. Bad Schwartau sits right next to Lübeck, on the route between Hamburg and Denmark. I speak German, English and Russian; written correspondence with the practice is in English or German - whichever is easier for you.

Before you plan a trip, simply describe your situation briefly in the request form - we get back to you with the next steps. The examination, including 3D diagnostics where needed, takes place here at the practice. A binding, itemised written treatment plan follows the examination in person - before any treatment is booked.

What I will not promise

Patients who look for a biological dentist often have a long story behind them. They deserve a clear line between what dentistry can do and what it cannot.

  • No cure for general illness.Removing old fillings, treating a suspected focus in the jaw or placing a ceramic implant can be the right decision for your mouth. Whether general complaints improve as a result is something no dentist can guarantee - and I will not promise it.
  • No removal "just in case".Removing intact amalgam fillings is a case-by-case decision, not a routine precaution - health authorities do not recommend it as such. When fillings do have to come out, it happens under a protective protocol.
  • Models are named as models.Traditional ideas such as the tooth-organ chart can inform a conversation, but they are not a diagnosis. Decisions rest on examination and imaging.
  • No guaranteed results.Every mouth heals differently. Where long-term data on a material or method are still limited, I say so before you decide - and you receive a written plan, not a sales pitch.

A second opinion on a treatment that someone else has already proposed is welcome, too - bring the proposed plan to the first consultation; the examination itself takes place here at the practice.
