From Aarhus, Lübeck is about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive, taking the motorway south through Jutland and Funen and then either continuing on the land route or using the Puttgarden-Rødby ferry. It is one clear corridor most of the way.
Cross the Fehmarnbelt
If you take the ferry option, Scandlines runs the Rødby-Puttgarden crossing in about 45 minutes, with frequent departures. From Puttgarden it is roughly one hour onward to Lübeck/Bad Schwartau.
Via Hamburg Airport
Hamburg Airport is the nearest major international airport for any air connections. From Hamburg it is roughly a 45-55 minute drive, or about a 1h10-1h25 train journey, to Lübeck/Bad Schwartau.
The Fehmarnbelt link
A fixed road-and-rail tunnel between Puttgarden and Rødby is under construction, with the first elements placed in 2025; an exact opening date is not yet certain. Until it opens, the Scandlines ferry remains the direct crossing.

Denmark and Germany are both part of the EU, and under EU Directive 2011/24/EU on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare, patients from EU/EEA countries may be eligible to seek planned treatment in another EU/EEA country and apply for reimbursement from their national system - typically up to the amount it would have cost at home.
